The words you'll see in your editor and our guides, in alphabetical order. Each links to the guide with the steps.
- Add-on: An extra feature that isn't part of your plan, such as an online store or online bookings. If your site doesn't have one yet, ask us about adding it. We quote it in writing first. See How your online store works and How online bookings work.
- Alt text: A short description of a photo. A phone reads it aloud to someone who can't see the photo, and it shows if the photo doesn't load. See Write alt text in plain words.
- Backup: A saved copy of your site, kept in your editor, that you can go back to if a big change goes wrong. See Save a backup before a big change.
- Browser tab icon: The tiny picture beside your page title in a browser tab. See Change the small icon in the browser tab.
- Domain: Your website address, like yourbusiness.com. You buy it yourself, in your own name, and keep it. See Your website address (domain).
- Draft: A page set aside so it isn't on the live site and can't be found through search. Your edits also stay as a draft until you publish them. See Publish one page, or keep a page as a draft.
- Footer: The strip at the very bottom of every page, often holding your address, phone number and links. See Edit your footer.
- Form submission: A message someone sent through a form on your site. It's emailed to you and kept in a list in your editor. See Where your form messages go.
- Header: The strip at the top of your pages. It holds your logo and your menu. See Change your site header.
- Media library: The one place everything you upload goes: photos, videos, audio and files, with a tab for each and folders to keep them tidy. See Upload and organize your photos and files.
- Menu: The list of links at the top of your site. Most menus follow your list of pages and update themselves. See Change the links in your menu.
- Padlock (https): The small padlock in the address bar, and https at the start of your address, mean the connection between a visitor and your site is private. See What the padlock (https) means for your site.
- Page: One page of your site, such as Menu or Contact. It's built from sections, and your plan holds a set number of pages. See Ask for a new page.
- Popup: A small window that opens over a page, for a short notice, an offer or a quick sign-up. See Add a popup.
- Preview: Your site with changes that aren't live yet, as visitors will see it. See Preview your changes before you publish.
- Publish: Putting your changes on the live site. Visitors don't see your edits until you do. See Publish your changes.
- Section: A block on a page. Sections stack from top to bottom, and each holds one or more columns of widgets. See Add a section to a page.
- Small change: An edit to text, photos, hours, menus, prices or contact details on a page that already exists, about 30 minutes or less. See Request a change.
- Widget: A building block of a page, such as a button, a contact form, a map or a photo gallery. See Add a widget to a page.
