Online store

Add a PayPal button to any page

Put a PayPal button on a page so visitors can pay for one item or send a donation, without an online store.

A PayPal button is a quick way to take one payment or a donation on any page, with no online store behind it. Visitors click it and pay through PayPal. You need your own PayPal account, and you connect it yourself. We never ask for your PayPal password.

Before you start

  • Have your PayPal user name ready.
  • For a sale, know the item's name and price, plus any shipping cost and the tax percentage you charge. Your accountant can tell you the right tax rate.
  • For a donation, decide what it is for and whether to set an amount.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page for the button.
  2. Add a PayPal Button to the page. See Add a widget to a page.
  3. Click the button on the page. In the small menu that appears, open the option to edit its content.
  4. Type your PayPal user name.
  5. Choose a Type of Transaction:
    • Buy: fill in Item name, Price, Currency, Shipping cost and Tax %.
    • Donate: fill in Donation for, Donation amount and Currency.
  6. To change the button's size, choose Edit Design from the same small menu. You can pick Large, Large with credit card logos or Small.
  7. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Good to know

  • The button handles one-time payments and donations only. It can't set up repeat payments.
  • The words on the button can't be changed, and neither can its look beyond the three sizes.
  • PayPal opens in a new tab or window, and the visitor's browser settings decide which. The button can't keep them on your page.
  • For a full catalog with a cart, use the online store instead. See Add PayPal at checkout.

Tips

  • Add one button per item, and put each beside the item it pays for.
  • Click your own button once after publishing to check that it opens PayPal. Close the PayPal tab without paying.
