Link to an email address, phone number or file

Make words, a photo or a button open an email, start a phone call or download a file such as a PDF menu.

Some links don't go to a web page. They start something: a new email, a phone call or a download. Use them for "Email us", "Phone the shop" and "Get our menu".

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Open the link settings for what you want to link:
    • Words: click the text, select the words and click the link icon in the bar above.
    • Button: click it, then choose the option for editing its content.
    • Photo: click it, then click Replace Image and find the link option.
  3. Choose what the link does:
    • Email address opens the visitor's email app with your address filled in.
    • Click to call offers to call the phone number you enter.
    • File for download downloads the file you pick.
  4. Fill in the detail it asks for: the email address, the phone number or the file.
  5. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Before you start

For a download, have the file ready. If it isn't in your files yet, see Add a file people can download.

Tips

  • Test every link on your own phone after you publish. Tap it and see what happens.
  • What a link does depends on the visitor's device. A phone offers to call, and a computer may do something different.
  • Name a file clearly, such as "Dinner menu", so people know what they're getting.
  • If you only want a ready-made call or email button, see Add a tap-to-call button or Add a tap-to-email button.
  • If you change your phone number or email, check for links that use the old one. See Update your phone number or address.
