Phone, address and location

Change the number or email on a call or email button

Change the phone number or email address a tap-to-call or tap-to-email button uses, and what to do when it's connected to your business details.

A new number or email address needs changing in every place it appears, and the call and email buttons are two of them. Here is how to change what a button uses.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page with the button.
  2. Click the button. Its floating menu appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
  3. Open its content settings, unless you used Edit Content.
  4. Change the phone number or the email address.
  5. If the words on the button mention it, change those too.
  6. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

If the field won't let you type

The button may be connected to your saved business details. When it is, the phone number comes from there, and you can't change it on the button. Change it in your business details instead. See Update your business details in one place.

Check every place

The same number or address is probably on more than one page and button. Look at:

  • The header, especially a call button that stays on screen.
  • The footer.
  • Your contact or visit page.
  • Any button in a menu or popup.

Update your phone number or address has the full list. If your contact form sends its messages to an old address, that's a separate setting: Change who gets your form messages.

Test it

After you publish, tap the button on your own phone. A call button should open the dialer with the new number. An email button should open a new message to the new address. On a computer, a call button may not do anything, and that's normal.

Good to know

  • You can make this change from a phone or tablet. You'll use the regular editor, the same as on a computer. See Edit your site from a phone or tablet.
  • A plain button with a call or email link is edited in the button's link settings: Change a button's link or wording.
  • Never change a number because a message asked you to unless you're sure who sent it.
