Link to a spot further down a page

Mark a spot on a long page, then link to it from a button, words or your menu so visitors jump straight there.

On a long page, a visitor may only want one part: the menu, the prices, the contact details. An anchor marks that spot, and a link can jump straight to it. Mark the spot first, then add a link that jumps to it.

Mark the spot

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Right-click the item at the spot you want to link to, such as a heading or a section.
  3. Click Set As Anchor.
  4. Type an Anchor Name, for example "Prices". Choose a short name that says what's there.
  5. Decide about Add to Site Navigation. It's ticked by default, which adds the spot to your site's menu. Untick it if you only want to link to the spot from a button or from words.
  6. Click Add.

If you added it to the menu, the spot also shows up in the Pages list in the side panel.

  1. Add or open a button, or select words and click the link icon. See Add a button.
  2. In the link settings, choose Anchor.
  3. Choose the page that holds the spot.
  4. Choose the spot's name from the list that opens.
  5. Preview, click the link to check the page jumps to the right place, then publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Change or remove a spot

  1. Right-click the item that has the anchor.
  2. Click the gear icon, then Edit Anchor.
  3. Click Delete anchor, or change the name.
  4. If you changed it, click Update.

Watch out

Be careful with a spot that sits in your menu with pages tucked under it. Delete it and those pages go with it. Ask us before you delete one.

Good to know

  • Anchors can't go in the header or the footer. If you need a link that jumps to something in the footer, ask us and we'll set it up.
  • Some pages are made from a list, with one page for each item. Links to a spot on one of those pages only work from the page itself. Your other pages won't list it as a choice.
