Change a button's link or wording

Change what a button says or where it takes people, for example when your menu, phone number or booking page changes.

Buttons go out of date quietly: a new menu file, a new booking page, a new offer. You can change the words and the destination in a minute.

Change the wording

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Click the button. A small floating menu appears.
  3. Choose the option for editing the button's content.
  4. Click in the box with the button's words and type the new ones.

Change where it goes

  1. In the same content settings, look at the list of places the button can go.
  2. Choose the one you want:
    • Existing Page for another page on your site. Then pick the page.
    • Website address for a page on another site. Then paste the address.
    • Popup to open a popup.
    • Anchor for a spot further down a page.
    • Back to top or Scroll to bottom to move around the same page.
    • Email Address to open an email to one address.
    • Click To Call to call one phone number.
    • File for download to hand over a file.
  3. Fill in what it asks for: the page, the address, the number or the file.
  4. Preview the page and click the button to check it goes where you meant.
  5. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Tips

  • Store link, Blog post and Membership plan checkout only appear if your site has a store, a blog or memberships.
  • A button that adds a product straight to the cart only works for a product that's active, in stock and has no sizes or other options. It can't be a product that repeats on a schedule.
  • To change how a button looks, rather than what it says or does, click it, choose Edit Design and use the settings there. See Change the button style across your site.
  • A button that shows a phone number or email should match what's on your Contact page. See Update your phone number or address.
