Keep a button on screen while visitors scroll

Fix a button in one spot so "Get a quote" or "Order online" stays in view however far down the page someone scrolls.

A button that stays in view as visitors scroll keeps your most important action within reach: "Get a quote", "Order online", "See the menu".

Before you start

Add the button first and set where it goes. See Add a button.

Keep the button in view

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Click the button. In the small floating menu, choose Edit Design. A design panel opens on the right.
  3. Scroll down the panel to the Position section.
  4. Open the position type menu and choose Fixed. The button now stays put as people scroll. This applies to every screen size, and you can change it for one size later.
  5. Use the margin settings under Spacing to place the button in the corner or along the edge you want.
  6. Use the device icons at the top to switch to the tablet and phone views, and place the button on each one.
  7. Preview the page and scroll to check.
  8. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

A fixed button can show on all pages of your site. If you only want it on the page you're editing, turn on Show on this page only.

Keep it with its column instead

Pinned is a second choice in the same menu. A pinned button stays with the column it sits in for as long as that column is on screen, then moves away with it. Choose Pinned in step 4, then set the offset in the Position section. The offset sets where the button stops on the screen as you scroll. If your header also stays at the top, check the offset after you turn that on, because it doesn't adjust by itself.

Tips

  • On a phone, put the button in a bottom corner so a thumb can reach it.
  • If two fixed buttons share the same corner, give each its own margin so they don't sit on top of each other.
  • On a phone you can show a small icon instead of words, if you choose the button layout that has one.
  • You can't switch a button from Fixed straight to Pinned. Set it back to the default position first, and expect the button to jump to the first section on screen.
  • If the button doesn't show on phones, tell us and we'll check the phone layout.
