Add a large drop-down menu
Turn a menu item into a wide panel of links, buttons and pictures. It shows on computers only.
A large drop-down menu opens a wide panel when someone points at a menu item. It's for sites with a lot to show: many services, a long list of products, a catalog. For a short list of pages, a regular drop-down is simpler: Group pages under one menu item.
Before you start
- It shows on computers only. On phones, visitors get the phone menu, so check that too: Change the menu on phones.
- Your menu must sit in the header and run in a row across the page.
- The item you pick has to be a top-level menu item with no sub-items. The item itself can't be clicked and can't link to a page.
- The menu needs to be set to Custom Links. See Change the links in your menu.
Steps
- Log in to your site editor.
- Click your menu in the header to open its floating bar, then click Manage Links.
- Choose Custom Links.
- Choose the menu item that should become a large menu.
- On the right, choose Mega menu, then type a name for it.
- Repeat for any other items. Drag items into the order you want.
- Click Edit mega menu. The panel opens as a section you edit like any other: add buttons, icons or a gallery, and link them.
- Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
How it opens
Scroll down in the design settings to the Mega Menu section.
- Turn on Arrow visibility to show a small arrow beside the item.
- Choose how visitors open it: Hover (the default) or Click. With Click, the first click opens it and the second closes it.
Watch out
A large menu is removed if you delete the menu, change the header preset or switch between a basic and an advanced header. A copy of your menu doesn't bring the large panel along. Save a backup before you change the header: Save a backup before a big change.
