Add a copyright line that updates itself

Add a footer line with the copyright symbol, the current year and your business name, so the year never goes stale.

The Copyright widget shows the copyright symbol and the current year, and the year updates on its own. A correct year tells visitors your site is kept up to date. You set it up once.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and scroll to the footer.
  2. Open the widgets list in the side panel and drag the Copyright widget into the footer.
  3. Click it to open its floating menu, then open its content settings. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
  4. In the description field, type the words that follow the year, such as your business name.
  5. To put the year and symbol on the right of your words instead of the left, turn on Reverse icon/year position. The left is the standard.
  6. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Change how it looks

In the floating menu, click Edit Design. You can change the font and color of the text, the alignment and text direction, and the spacing around it.

Good to know

  • An older line you typed by hand, with a fixed year, is plain text. Delete it once the new one is in place, so you don't show two.
  • To add other things to the footer, see Edit your footer.
