Add a privacy page to your site

Switch on a ready-made privacy page, fill in your details and link to it. Check the final wording with your lawyer.

A privacy page tells visitors what information your site collects and how it's used. Your site editor can create a starting version for you, and you fill in the details that are specific to your business.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor.
  2. In the side panel, click More, then Settings.
  3. Click Privacy Settings.
  4. Switch on the Customize Privacy Page toggle. If your site has no privacy page yet, one is created for you.
  5. Click Customize to edit the text. Anything that needs your details is highlighted in red.
  6. Replace each red item with your own details, and read the rest of the page.
  7. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

To change the page later, come back to the same place and click Customize again. To go back to the starting text, click Reset to original page.

Where the page lives

The page's address is yourdomain.com/privacy. You can change the end of that address in the Privacy page URL field. The page isn't added to your menu automatically, and it isn't listed in your site's map for search engines.

To add a link in your menu:

  1. Add a new page and set it to open an external address.
  2. Paste in your privacy page address.

See Add a link to another site in your menu. You can also put the link in the footer. See Edit your footer.

If your site isn't published yet, the page will be at your future address followed by /privacy.

Tips

  • The page starts with default text. Make sure it describes what your site actually does: forms, stats, anything you've added.
  • This is a setting, not legal advice. What your business needs on this page is a question for your lawyer.
  • If your site has a contact form, see Add a consent checkbox to a form.
