Add a shape or a badge

Use a shape as a badge, banner or callout, such as an award, a sale price or a "New menu" tag, and place it over a photo.

A shape is a flexible block you can fill with a color or a picture and put words on. Use one to call attention to something: an award, a sale price, a new menu or a "Now booking" tag.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Add a Shape widget to the page. See Add a widget to a page.
  3. Click the shape and open its content settings from the small menu.
  4. Choose a shape: circle, flag, diamond or another.
  5. To make it a link, click Add Link and choose where it goes.
  6. Type a title and a description. Click the eye icon if you want them hidden.
  7. Type some Alt text and a Tooltip. The tooltip is the text people see when they point at the shape. See Write alt text in plain words.
  8. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Change how it looks

Open the shape's design settings from the small menu.

  • Click Layout to switch from a color background to a picture background. To change the picture, go to the Style tab and choose the Image tab.
  • In the Style tab, change the width, the height and the hover effect (what happens when someone points at the shape on a computer).

Place it over a photo

To put a badge on the corner of a photo, or let it overlap the top of a column:

  1. Open the shape's design settings and click the Spacing tab.
  2. Set a margin to a negative number, such as -50px. A negative margin lets the shape sit on top of a photo or another item.
  3. For the corner of a photo, use the left and top margins. For a badge sitting over the top edge of a column, use the top margin only.
  4. Adjust until it sits where you want it.

Make a badge float

To make a shape float, turn on the Floating switch and choose a position. To show it on the current page only, turn on Show on this page only.

Tips

  • Keep the words very short. A badge is a headline, not a paragraph.
  • Choose a color that matches your brand and make sure the text is easy to read on it.
  • Spacing and size settings can differ for computers, tablets and phones. Check the phone view. See Check how your site looks on a phone.
