Make a section look different on phones

Change an item's alignment, size or spacing on the phone view only, without touching how it looks on a computer.

Sometimes a layout that works on a computer is awkward on a phone. You can change how an item sits on the phone view without touching the computer view.

What you can change for phones only

  • Alignment: how the item lines up.
  • Position: where the item sits.
  • Size: how wide and tall it is.
  • Spacing: the space around and inside it.

You can also hide an item on phones. See Hide something on phones or on computers.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. In the top bar, click the phone icon to switch to the phone view.
  3. Click the item you want to change.
  4. Click Edit Design in its small menu and change its alignment, size or spacing.
  5. Look at the page on the phone view. Switch back to the computer view and make sure it hasn't changed there.
  6. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Want a different order on phones? Send us the page and how you'd like it to read, and we'll do it.

Good to know

  • Content is shared across every screen. If you add, edit or delete something in one view, the change happens in all of them.
  • Once you change a setting for phones, changing that setting on the computer view later no longer changes the phone version for that item. If you want the two to match again, send us the page and we'll take care of it.
  • Tablets have their own view too. Check it before you publish.

Tips

  • Change one thing at a time and check it, so you know what fixed the problem.
  • Don't delete in the phone view to tidy things up. Deleting removes the item from every screen. Use hide instead.
  • Check on a real phone when you can, not only in the editor's phone view.
