Photos, video and files
Add a video
Put a video on your page by uploading it or by pasting a YouTube or Vimeo link.
A short video can show your food, your work or your shop better than a paragraph can. You can upload your own file, or show a video that lives on YouTube or Vimeo.
Before you start
- Anything you upload is publicly available. Only upload videos you are happy to show the world.
- Uploads can be up to 200 MB each, and a site can hold up to 100 videos. For a longer or larger video, put it on YouTube or Vimeo and paste its link instead.
- If you use YouTube or Vimeo, check the video's sharing settings on that service, including setting it to public. Otherwise it may not play on your site.
Steps
- Log in to your site editor and open the page.
- Add the Video widget where you want it. See Add a widget to a page. In the newer editor you can also click Add, then Media, and drag a video onto the page.
- Click the video, then choose the content option in the small menu that appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
- To use a file, click Select Video. Choose a video from the ones shown, click Full View to see all your videos, or click Upload to add a new one.
- To use YouTube or Vimeo, paste the video's link into the field provided.
- For an uploaded video, you can also choose a cover picture to show before it plays, and show or hide the player controls.
- Look at the page in the phone preview.
- Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
Good to know
- The video box doesn't copy the video's shape on its own. If the shape is off, grab the box by its bottom right corner and drag until it matches the video. Also turn off Full Width on the design tab, so the shape isn't changed again.
- The cover picture for a YouTube or Vimeo video comes from that service. Change it there.
- Viewers pick the picture quality themselves on YouTube and Vimeo, using the player's own settings icon.
- How fast a video loads depends on the viewer's connection.
- To have it start by itself, see Make a video play on its own.
- To put a moving picture behind a whole section instead, see Add a background video to a section.
If a video won't upload
Check that the file is under 200 MB and that you haven't reached 100 videos. If it still won't go up, send us the file and we'll upload it for you.
