Add an audio player

Let visitors listen to a song, podcast or recording right on your page, from SoundCloud, Mixcloud or a file you upload.

An audio player lets visitors listen without leaving your page. Use it for a podcast episode, a recording of your band, a voicemail greeting or a spoken welcome.

Before you start

  • Anything you upload is publicly available. Don't upload private or confidential recordings.
  • Only add audio you made, or that you have permission to share. If you're unsure, check with your lawyer.
  • Decide where the audio lives. Either upload it to SoundCloud or Mixcloud and use its link, or upload the file to your site.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Add the Audio widget where you want it. See Add a widget to a page.
  3. Click the widget, then choose the content option in the small menu that appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
  4. Click Select Audio.
  5. Do one of these:
    • Pick an audio file you uploaded earlier.
    • Upload a new file from your device.
    • Paste the link to a SoundCloud or Mixcloud track or playlist in the field provided.
  6. Open the design settings (the design option in the small menu, or right-click and choose Edit Design) and set the look, as below.
  7. Look at the page in the phone preview.
  8. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

What you can change

It depends on where the audio comes from.

Where it comes fromWhat you can change
MixcloudLayout, whether the thumbnail shows, a light or dark look, and the width
SoundCloudLayout, the color of the play icon, and the width
A file you uploadedOnly the width

The layouts for SoundCloud and Mixcloud are different. If you have more than one audio player, put them all on the same service so they look the same.

Tips

  • Put a line of text near the player that says what it is and how long it runs, so people know what they'll get.
  • If you would rather have people download a recording, see Add a file people can download.
