Add a photo gallery

Show several photos together in a neat grid on any page, and choose how many columns and rows show.

A gallery shows a group of photos together: your food, your finished work, your shop or your team. Visitors tap a photo to see it larger.

Before you start

  • Pick your best photos rather than every photo you have. A shorter gallery is easier to look through on a phone.
  • Use photos in the same shape, such as all wide or all square, so the grid looks tidy. For sizes, see Pick the right photo size and file type.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Add the Photo Gallery widget where you want it. See Add a widget to a page.
  3. Click the gallery, then choose the content option in the small menu that appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
  4. Click Add image. You can pick several photos at once. Pick from the photos already shown. Full View opens all your photos, and the plus icon uploads new ones.
  5. Click each photo in turn and fill in its Alt text, a short description of what it shows. See Write alt text in plain words.
  6. To change the look, choose the design option from the same menu, or right-click and choose Edit Design. On the Layout tab, pick a layout, set the Number of columns and the number of Visible rows. Switch on Auto adjust columns if you see gaps.
  7. Use the other tabs to polish it: Images for spacing, rounded corners, shadow and hover effect, Frame for a background color or border, and Spacing for the room around the gallery.
  8. Look at the phone preview and check the columns still look right. Layouts are set separately for each device.
  9. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Good to know

  • By default, tapping a photo opens it larger in a viewer where people can flip through the rest. If you would rather each photo link to a page, see Add titles and links to gallery photos.
  • Photos load as visitors scroll down to them, which keeps the page quick. That is the default. You can turn it off on the Frame tab.
  • The Frame tab also has a Hide share images switch. Turn it on to take away the button visitors could use to share a photo.
  • To add, remove or reorder photos later, see Add, remove or reorder photos in a gallery.
