Add titles and links to gallery photos
Give each gallery photo a title and a short description, show or hide them, and make a photo open a page instead of a larger view.
Each photo in a gallery can carry a title, a short description and a button, and can send people to a page when they tap it. Use only what helps. A plain gallery is fine.
Add a title or description
- Log in to your site editor and open the page with the gallery.
- Click the gallery, then choose the content option in the small menu that appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
- Click the photo you want to label.
- Type in Title and Description. The description box lets you use bold, italic and underline.
- A Button is also available. Each of these three has an eye icon. Click it to hide that item.
If you leave a visible field empty, the space for it stays on the page. Hide any field you aren't using.
Choose where the words show
- Open the design settings: choose the design option from the small menu, or right-click and choose Edit Design.
- On the Layout tab, choose Text/button under image, Text/button on hover or Text/button on image, then pick a position.
Words that show on hover only work on a computer, because a phone has no hover. For a phone, choose the version under the photo. If your gallery has a Show image captions switch on the Content tab, it turns on captions when someone rests the mouse on a photo. Check the phone preview. See Check how your site looks on a phone.
Make photos open a page
- In the content window, turn on Enable links on gallery images at the top.
- Click a photo, then click Edit Link and choose where it goes: a page on your site, another website, a popup, a spot lower on the page, an email address and more.
- Repeat for each photo.
Turning on links turns off the larger-view window. A photo with no link does nothing when tapped. So give a link to every photo, or leave links off.
Finish
Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
Tips
- A title and description are separate from a photo's alt text. Fill in the alt text too: see Write alt text in plain words.
- Keep titles short, a few words that tell people what they're looking at.
- To link a single photo elsewhere on your site, see Make a photo link to a page or file.
