Change a heading's size, font or color

A heading is the bigger line that introduces a section. You can change how one heading looks without touching the rest of the site. If you'd rather change every heading at once, skip to the tips.

Steps

1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
2. Click the heading to open it for editing.
3. Drag across the words to select the heading.
4. For a new size or font, pick from the bar that appears over the selected text. A font with other weights shows them when you point at its name, for example normal or bold.
5. To change the color, click the color icon in the bar and pick one.
6. Look at the result. If you don't like it, use the undo icon in the same bar.
7. Click the check mark in the bar to finish.
8. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Make a heading bigger or smaller without changing the font

Each line of text has a type: a paragraph, or one of six heading levels, Heading 1 to Heading 6. Select the line, open the text type menu in the bar, and pick a different level. Your site gives each level its own look.

If more text changed than you meant, use undo, then email us the heading and we'll make the change.

Keep a heading on one line

Use the scale text icon in the bar. The words then resize with the box they sit in, which helps when you don't want a heading to break onto a second line.

Tips

• A heading you've changed by hand stops following your site's fonts. If you later change the site's fonts, that heading stays as you set it. To send it back, select it and click Clear Formatting.
• To change every heading in the same way, change your site's fonts or colors instead. See Change your site's fonts and text sizes and Change your site's colors.
• The text type menu has an Update theme option at the bottom. It applies your change to that kind of text across the whole site. If you're not sure you want that, ask us first.
• Check the heading in the phone preview. A big size that fits on a computer can wrap onto more lines on a phone.
