Sell a digital download

A digital product is a file customers download after they pay: a PDF guide, a recipe book, a music track, a printable planner. Nothing ships, so nothing to pack.

Online stores are an add-on. If your site doesn't have one yet, ask us about adding it; we quote it in writing first.

Steps

1. Log in to your site editor.
2. In the side panel, click Store, then Catalog, then Product Catalog.
3. Click +Add a product and choose Digital product.
4. Fill in the Title, Description and Price.
5. In the Upload the digital files you want to sell section, upload your file. You can add up to 10 files per product, each up to 100 MB.
6. Check that Status is Active, then click Save.

A digital product saved without a file stays a draft until you add one.

What customers get

Right after they pay, customers get an email with a download link. The thank-you page and their customer account have the link too.

Choose how long the link works

Download links expire after 30 days unless you change that.

1. Open the digital product in the Product Catalog.
2. In the Upload the digital files you want to sell section, click Change.
3. Choose Set to expire after and type a number of days, or choose Set to never expire.
4. If the page shows a Save button, click it.

The new setting applies to future orders, and to any confirmation emails you resend. Links already sent keep their old dates.

Tips

• Digital products can't have options such as sizes or colors, and they can't be sold on a repeat schedule.
• Only sell files you created or have the right to sell.
• If a customer's link has run out, email us the order and we'll help.
