Restore an earlier version of your site
Put your site back to an earlier saved copy if a big change went wrong. Tell us first, and save a copy of the current site before you restore.
Your site editor keeps saved copies of your site. If a big change went wrong, you can go back to one. Restoring replaces your current site with the older copy, so please read this through first.
Before you restore
- Email us first. We may be able to fix the problem without rolling back the whole site, and we can tell you which copy is the right one.
- Expect to lose recent changes. Anything you or we changed after that copy was saved, such as new hours, a new menu or a new blog post, goes back to how it was. You'd need to make those changes again.
- Save a copy of the site as it is now. See Save a backup before a big change. Then you can get back if you picked the wrong one.
Steps
- Log in to your site editor.
- In the side panel, click More, then Settings.
- Click Site Backup.
- Optional: click Preview next to the copy you're thinking of, to look at it in a new tab.
- Click the Restore link next to the copy you want.
- Click Restore again to confirm.
- Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
You won't see the restored site on your live address until it's published. Until then the editor and the live site look different.
Blog posts
Your blog goes back with the rest of the site. A post that returns with the restored copy only goes live once you publish the restored site.
Good to know
- The editor saves copies by itself after things like each publish. The list holds up to 50 of those and up to 50 you save yourself. When it's full, the oldest copy is dropped to make room, so a copy you want to keep is safest saved by hand.
- Give each copy you save a clear name, so you can tell later which one to pick.
- If you only want to undo your last edit, try Undo a change first.
