Add a moving animation

A small animation adds a touch of movement: a checkmark that draws itself, an arrow that bobs, a simple scene. It stays sharp at any size. Use one only where it helps.

Before you start

• You need a link to the animation. Free animations are on a website called LottieFiles. Find one you like, open it and click the html option, then copy the web address it gives you. The web address of an animation file kept on another site can also work.
• Free animations come with a rule: you must credit the person who made it. The creator's name shows near the bottom of the pop-up when you open the animation on LottieFiles. Check the license there, and ask a lawyer if you're unsure.

Steps

1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
2. Add the Lottie Animation widget where you want it. See Add a widget to a page.
3. Click the widget, then choose the content option in the small menu that appears. You can also right-click it and choose Edit Content.
4. Paste the animation's link into the box provided.
5. Choose how it plays. Pick Loop Animation to repeat it all the time, or Animate on click to play it only when someone taps.
6. If you want the animation to act as a link, click Link and choose where it goes. See Make a photo link to a page or file for the link options.
7. Open the design settings (the design option in the small menu, or right-click and choose Edit Design). Set its size with the sliders for width and height. Select Keep proportion so it doesn't stretch.
8. Add the creator's credit to the page, as the license asks.
9. Look at the page on a phone preview.
10. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.

Tips

• Less is more. One calm animation beats several moving at once, and constant movement can bother some visitors.
• Don't put anything important only in an animation. Say it in words too.
