Blog and posts

Show posts from another blog

Show a list of recent posts from another blog on a page of your site. It only shows them; it doesn't copy them into your blog.

The RSS feed widget shows the latest posts from another blog or news site on your page. Each item links to the original. It's handy for a partner's blog, a trade news feed or an older blog of your own.

What it does and doesn't do

  • It shows a list of recent posts from the feed you give it.
  • Every link opens in a new tab, and Read More takes visitors to the post on the original site.
  • It isn't connected to your own blog. It doesn't create posts there, and it doesn't copy posts onto your site. To copy your own old posts across, see Bring in posts from another blog.

Before you start

You need the blog's feed address, called an RSS feed. If you aren't sure where to find it, email us the blog's address and we'll find out. Only a working feed will show anything, and it helps to check it first with the W3C Feed Validator.

Steps

  1. Log in to your site editor and open the page.
  2. Add the RSS feed widget. See Add a widget to a page.
  3. Click the widget, then choose its content settings from the small menu that appears.
  4. Type the feed address in the field provided.
  5. Click the widget again and choose its design settings, to change how the list looks.
  6. Publish again. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
  7. Open the page on your live site and check that the posts appear.

Tips

  • If the list stays empty, check the feed address first. A feed address is not the same as the blog's page address.
  • Only link to blogs you're happy to send customers to.
