Blog and posts
Add a blog search box
Let visitors search your posts by title, and change the words shown in the search box. It searches titles only, not the text of posts.
A search box lets visitors type a word and find posts that match. It's useful once your blog has more than a handful of posts.
What it searches
It looks at the titles of your posts only. It doesn't look at the text inside them. That means a post only turns up if its title contains the word someone typed. Give your posts clear titles, in the words your customers use.
Steps
- Log in to your site editor and open the page that lists your posts.
- Add the Search Posts widget. See Add a widget to a page.
- Click the widget, then choose its content settings from the small menu that appears.
- Change the placeholder text, which is the wording shown inside the box before anyone types. For example, "Search our posts".
- To change the way it looks, click the widget again and choose its design settings. These work like the design settings for other widgets.
- Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
- Try it on your live page. Type a word from one of your post titles and check that the post comes up.
Tips
- Put the box near the top of your list of posts, where visitors will see it first.
- If your blog only has a few posts, you may not need a search box. Visitors can scroll the list instead. See Show your latest posts on a page.
