Point another website address to your site

Send visitors from other addresses you own, like an old business name or the .net version, to your main site.

If you own more than one address, such as an old business name or the .net and .org versions of your main one, you can send everyone who types them to your main site.

Before you start

  • Your main address must already be connected. See Connect your website address to your site.
  • You must own each extra address, in your name. We never sell or register addresses.
  • Make a list of the extra addresses and where you bought each one.

Steps

  1. Email us the list. We send you the exact records to add for each extra address.
  2. At your registrar, add the records for each address, or give us temporary access instead. We never ask for your password. Add every record we send. If one is left out, only the www version of that address will forward.
  3. In your site editor, click More in the side panel, then Settings, then Site Domain.
  4. In the Site URL section, click Add alternate domain.
  5. Type your extra addresses in the box, with a comma between each, such as www.oldname.com,www.oldname.net.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
  8. Open each extra address once in your browser. That starts the creation of its padlock, so allow up to 3 hours. The padlock on your main address must be in place first.

How it behaves

  • A visitor who types an extra address is sent to the same page on your main address. For example, oldname.com/contact goes to yourmain.com/contact.
  • You can add up to 10 extra addresses to one site.
  • The extra addresses' padlocks don't show in your editor, so you can't manage them there. Tell us if one is missing.

Tips

  • Leave the option that shows your site at the extra addresses, instead of forwarding, switched off. It can work against how your pages show up on Google.
