Hours, holidays and closures

Add holiday hours

Show different hours for a holiday on your site and Google profile, then take the notice down afterward.

A holiday usually means different hours for a day or two, then back to normal. The goal is that customers see the change before they come, and that the old note disappears afterward.

Steps

  1. List the days you'll change. Use the date, not just the day name: "Thursday, November 26: closed" is clearer than "Thanksgiving: closed".
  2. Decide where to show it. A short banner at the top of the homepage works best, and the Visit or Contact page should carry the same dates.
  3. Log in to your site editor. Add the banner text, or add a line under your regular hours on the Visit or Contact page.
  4. Preview on a phone, then publish. If you don't see a Publish button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
  5. After the holiday, take the banner and the extra line down so old dates don't stay up.

Your Google profile

Add the same dates there yourself. Sign in, choose Edit profile, then Hours, then Special hours, and pick the date. Google's help page says special hours can cover a change of up to 6 days in a row. If you'll be closed for 7 days or more, or you don't know when you'll reopen, Google has a Temporarily closed setting for that. Your screen may word these a little differently.

Dates people ask about

Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Eve and Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day. Add your own too: a family event, a religious holiday, or the week you take off every summer. See Holiday and season calendar for the full year.

Good to know

  • Send us the dates about two or three weeks ahead. We also send seasonal reminders through the year.
  • You can write the banner yourself or send us the words. We only publish hours and messages that come from you.

Need a hand?

Email hello@zossoz.com with the dates and hours and say whether you want a banner. We'll put it up and take it down when you tell us. Each one counts as a small change for the month.
