Blog and posts
Turn on comments on blog posts
Add a comment box to a post using your own account at an outside comments service. Each post needs its own setup, and you manage comments there.
Comments let readers respond to a post. They use an outside service called Disqus. You create your own Disqus account, and the comments live there. They show on your site through a comment box you add to each post.
Think about whether you want this. Someone has to read the comments and remove the ones you don't want to appear.
Before you start
- You need your own Disqus account. Create it at Disqus. Their help pages explain how to make a site and find its short name, called a shortname. We never ask for your password, and you should never send it to us.
- Each post you allow comments on needs its own Disqus site, with a different shortname.
- If you give us the shortnames, we can add the comment boxes for you.
Steps
- Log in to your site editor.
- In the side panel, click Blog, then Manage Posts.
- Select the post and click the Edit icon.
- Add the Disqus Comments widget and drag it to the bottom of the post, below the last line of text. See Add a widget to a page.
- In the widget's menu, open the Content tab.
- In the Enter Your Disqus Shortname field, type your shortname. Only the name is needed, not the .disqus.com part.
- Click Republish Post. If you don't see a Republish Post button, tell us and we'll publish it for you.
- Open the post on your live site and check that the comment box shows.
Until you type the shortname, visitors can't comment.
Managing comments
Comments are managed in your Disqus account, not in your site editor. Sign in there to moderate them.
Tips
- Start with one or two posts, to see how much attention comments need.
- Check your comments now and then. An unanswered question or an unwelcome message left on your site looks bad.
